Liver Disease

The main function of the liver is to help with the digestion of food, ridding toxic substances from the body. Liver disease results from the damage or scarring of this organ, leading to life-threatening liver failure. This condition can be inherited, but it can also be brought on by other factors (such as excessive drinking).

What are the symptoms of liver disease?

Jaundice (in which the skin and eyes appear a yellowish color), abdominal swelling and pain, itchy skin, darker urine, swelling in the legs and ankles, pale or bloody stool, constant fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, easily bruising.

What are the treatments?

If you notice multiple symptoms from the list above, set up an appointment with your doctor to get a correct diagnosis.* If your abdominal pain is excruciating, seek immediate medical help.

* Individual results may vary.
